Description

Stamp of the Principality of Liechtenstein; 1964; commemorative stamp of the issue "Christmas 1964"; stamp motive with the monochromized depiction of an altarpiece of an unknown artist showing the martyrdom of the Holy Sebastian in the style of the late gothic or early renaissance; mint stamp
Note: The pictured painting shows a motive with the martyrdom of the Saint Sebastian beside of the heavenly appearance of the Holy Madonna (Holy Mary with the baby Jesus) and a shepherd (can be interpreted as Saint Josef or as symbol figure for God (the latter is indicated by a) the hallowing angel, b) the shepherd's crook as ancient-old symbol for rebirth and regeneration, and c) lacking sheeps (or other animals) belonging to a shepherd normally. Beside of this lacks a perspectival background. The lacking perspectibve and the glorioles at the three posterior figures indicates to the late gothic time, although Mary wears clothings from the renaissance time.
