Note: The original of this painting is located in the Schweizerisches Nationalmuseum, Zürich, although a copy of this painting is shown to the publicity in the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg (Russia). The painting shows the General in the age of 69 years and is regarding to the events of the from 21 September 1799 until 26 September 1799

as Russian-Austrian troups under General Suworow fighted against Napoleonic French-Swiss troups within the frame of the War of the Second Coalition in Alpine regions how among others in the Tremola valley (Leventina District) and around the Gotthard pass (Switzerland). The fights ended with a severe defeat of the Russians, the whole Russian-Austrian campaign had neither a military nor a political importance.
