Summary[edit]

Description
English: Creator: Unidentified. Sourced with permission from Maryborough Wide Bay & Burnett Historical Society.

Location: Maryborough, Queensland.
Description: The Maryborough Town Hall was constructed as a result of a donation of 10,000 pounds by a Mr George Ambrose White of Victoria Farm, Tinana.
The Masonic Lodges were invited to officiate at the laying of the foundation stone, which took place on 25th May 1907. Coins, records and newspapers of the day were placed in the plinth at the foot of one of the columns.
This photograph shows the members of the Masonic Lodges gathered around the foundation stone. The ancient symbols of corn, representing plenty and abundance; wine, symbolising joy and cheerfulness; oil for peace and unanimity; and salt for hospitality and friendship were sprinkled around the stone to consecrate it.
