Summary[edit]
DescriptionLothian Region Transport preserved bus 869 Leyland Atlantean PDR2 Alexander A-Type JSC 869E coach division livery, 11 October 2009.jpg |
English: Lothian Region Transport bus 869 (reg. JSC 869E), a 1967 Leyland Atlantean PDR2 double-decker with Alexander A-Type bodywork. Pictured at the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust depot, preserved in LRT's coach division white and black livery.
The bus was delivered new to Edinburgh Corporation, fore-runner to LRT, for use in the standard fleet in the traditional madder and white livery. In 1976 it was passed to the LRT coach fleet, which operated the airport shuttle (hence the 'Airport Coach Service' destination blind) and city tour bus services (blinded as just 'City Tour'). For use in the coach fleet, buses were repainted into this black and white livery, converted from dual door to single door configuration, and given interior upgrades (in this buses case, carpets and seats retrimmed from the standard vinyl to fabric moquette). In 1982 the bus was cascaded to the LRT training fleet as TB5, and then sold in 1993 to the National Museum of Flight in East Lothian. After passing to Kirknewton glider club in 2004, the bus was sold into preservation in August 2007. This coach division livery continued to be used by LRT until the 1990s, when tour buses received the 'Edinburgh Classic Tour' branded white livery, and airport buses received the 'Airline' branded blue livery. |
