Title
English: Lowell School, ca. 1911
Description
English: The Lowell School, originally named the Columbia School, was built in 1889 on East Mercer Street on Capitol Hill. At that time, the area was outside the city limits. Within 20 years, the city had grown and the school was surrounded by a new, wealthy neighborhood.

This photo shows Lowell School's two wood frame buildings in about 1911. The boys seem to be spending recess watching the photographer.

Either this or File:Lowell School, Seattle, 1911 (MOHAI 1828).jpg (at right) is presumably misdated. This picture shows a second major building; that picture does not. According to https://www.historylink.org/File/10547 (reproduced from "Building for Learning", a generally reliable history of Seattle schools) the additions to the Lowell School were in 1904 and 1919. The 1919 addition is still standing, and is a brick building that doesn't look at all like that second major building. So possibly this is circa 1911, and that other image is before 1904.
