El ministro de Defensa, Pedro Cateriano, participó en la ceremonia que declaró oficialmente al Qhapaq Ñan o Gran Camino Inca como Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad, evento que fue presidido por el Jefe de Estado Ollanta Humala.

La importante distinción fue hecha por el Organismo de Naciones Unidas para la Educación y Cultura (Unesco) e implica el reconocimiento a la red de 60 mil kilómetros que recorrió el Imperio Incaico y permitió el traslado de personas, alimentos milenarios y la unificación cultural.

La declaración del Qhapaq Ñan como Patrimonio Mundial fue propuesta hace una década de manera conjunta por seis países. A la ceremonia realizada en el Complejo de Pachacámac asistieron ministros de Estado, los cancilleres de Chile y Colombia, así como representantes de países vecinos.
