"As guest of honor at the Marine Corps Birthday Ball, held at the Naval Gun Factory, Washington, DC, in celebration of the 179th Birthday of the Corps, Secretary of Defense Charles E. Wilson receives the first piece of cake from General Lemuel C. Shepherd, Jr., Commandant of the Marine Corps, while Admiral Robert B. Carney, Chief of Naval Operations looks on. November 10, 1954."
