Description
English: Future doctor of sociology Mauno Koivisto defending his dissertation "Social relations in the harbour of Turku" on 19 September 1956.

President Mauno Koivisto's private archive is preserved at the National Archives of Finland. The size of the collection is almost 32 shelf metres, containing a wide range of information regarding him and his life.

A good example of the wide scope of the private archive can be seen in the collection of photographs contained within (25 containers in total). The collection contains photos at least from the years 1939 to 1998, and includes prints by professional photographers as well as photos possibly taken by president Koivisto himself. Sadly, the photographer, time and place are seldom mentioned. The collection presented here contains photos from his youth.

Access to the archive requires written permission from the Director General of the National Archives.
Suomi: Presidentti Mauno Koiviston yksityisarkistoa säilytetään Kansallisarkistossa. Lähes 32 hyllymetrin laajuinen kokoelma sisältää runsaasti tietoa koko hänen elämänsä ajalta.

Hyvä ilmentymä arkiston laaja-alaisuudesta on siihen sisältyvä 22 kotelon ja kolmen laatikon laajuinen valokuvakokoelma, joka sisältää kuvia ainakin vuosilta 1939-1998. Kuvien ottaja ja ajoitus on valitettavan usein epäselvä - kokoelmassa on niin ammattivalokuvaajien vedoksia kuin myös presidentti Koiviston mahdollisesti itse ottamia kuvia. Tähän nyt julkaistuun kokoelmaan on valittu kuvia hänen nuoruusvuosiltaan.

Arkiston käyttöön vaaditaan Kansallisarkiston pääjohtajan lupa.
