Summary[edit]

Description A U.S. Navy McDonnell F3H-1N Demon taking off. The F3H-1N suffered from the unreliable Westinghouse J40 engine. Of 35 F3H-1N aircraft flown with the J40 engine, eight were involved in major accidents. The first production Demons were grounded after the loss of six aircraft and four pilots. Production F3H-2Ns were later powered by the Allison J71 engine. Note the McDonnell F2H-2 Banshee chase plane in the background.
