Summary[edit]
DescriptionMeadowhall station - geograph.org.uk - 775905.jpg |
English: Meadowhall station Out of town shopping malls are not really a good idea environmentally, leading to excessive car use as well as other problems. But if we do have to have them, then the example of Sheffield's Meadowhall shows the sensible way. Built on a brownfield site, a railway station was opened on the Sheffield to Rotherham line and a bus station provided. The trams came in 1993 and the platforms for them are seen under construction here. Following on the success of the scheme, two more heavy rail platforms have recently been opened on the Barnsley line, so that the area functions as a many-faceted transport interchange. Here, the redundant cooling towers of the Blackburn Meadows power station can be seen behind the viaduct carrying the M1 motorway. |
