Title
Modern Toy Soldier
Description
English: Lead alloy Toy Soldier. Hollow cast naturalistic rendition of a heavy cavalry trooper, possibly a dragoon guard, modelled at 1:32 or 54mm scale. The horse is modelled at the walk, with a sub-rectangular saddle cloth with prominent borders and a woollen shabraque. The riders wear knee boots rising at an angle at the front, and a sword and valise on his left side. The body of the rider bears relict flecks of red paint, with white and blue flecks on the saddle cloth, and an indeterminate dark tint on the flanks of the horse. The head of the rider and the feet and tail of the horse are lost. The subject, scale, pose and modelling may suggest this to be a William Britains product, though the fixed position of the arms might suggest it to be from the B range, which comprised cheaper or less carefully painted versions of popular lines. Tears and dents include at least one which might suggest this toy had been used as a target for rifle shooting; a 0.22 inch rifle bullet matching one of the smaller dents was found in the vicinity and is illustrated along with this object. The toy soldier is also slightly melted on one side. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1950.

Length: 69.2mm, Height: 53mm, Width: 14mm, Thickness (body wall): 0.8mm, Weight (with trapped soil): 37.28gms.
