Summary[edit]
DescriptionMoreton Cutting Yard geograph-2912715-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg |
English: Down freight passing Moreton Cutting Yard, just east of Didcot. View eastward, towards Reading and Paddington: ex-GWR main line London - Swindon etc., also to Oxford and the West Midlands, turning off at Didcot. (The Class F freight on the Down Slow is passing the splitting-Distant signal of Didcot East Junction Box, which controls the Didcot Avoiding-line). The locomotive is Collett-design 4-6-0 No. 6909 'Frewin Hall' (built 11/40, withdrawn 6/64). The Yard was built just before the War, mainly for handling traffic for exchange with the SR at Reading and is clearly still busy in 1958, but would be out of use in about 10 years. |
