Mozart, aged 34. This portrait, regarding which some doubts as to its authenticity have been expressed, was painted at Mayence, in 1790, by Tischbem. Mozart—f. SCi. Constance, seeing him thuswearing himself out, advised him to take a rest for a whileupon the sofa, promising to awake him in an hours time.He fell asleep at once and so profoundly that at the houragreed upon his wife scrupled to awake him from suchbeneficent repose.
