On 18 July 1855, New Zealand's first postage stamps went on sale. The 1 penny, 2 pence and 1 shilling stamps were printed in Britain and featured the famous ‘Chalon Head’ design portraying a full-face likeness of Queen Victoria in her coronation robes. This is a photograph of the original stamp from the 'Former Post and Telegraph/Telecom Museum Holdings' (Series 8106). Also reproduced in the series is a swag of other stamps from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries - a stamp enthusiasts' and graphic designers' dream!
