Summary[edit]

Description
English: New tram for Croydon. In the first half of 2012, Croydon Tramlink is taking delivery of six new trams in order to support the introduction of services on a new Route 4, running between Elmers End and Therapia Lane with the aim of easing congestion on the existing Routes 1 and 3, with the new service due to start in June 2012.

The trams are being built by Stadler Penkow Gmbh in Berlin. Three of them were originally earmarked for a system in Bergen in Norway, but were diverted to Croydon to enable speedy delivery.

Here one of the order, no 2557, the fourth to be delivered and the first to be built specifically for Croydon, is seen on a low loader parked up at Clacket Lane services on the M25. It will presumably be moved to Croydon overnight - Croydon traffic is bad enough without a 32 metre load adding to the congestion!
