Summary
[edit]DescriptionOnce a railway embankment - geograph.org.uk - 1212291.jpg |
English: Once a railway embankment. Now just a farm track, this was once the final section of a goods-only branch railway built about 1898 that ran from Leven to Lochty serving coal mines and agriculture. It was closed in 1965 but this section was resurrected in 1967 when railway enthusiasts relaid about a mile of track, one pair of points and one line leading into a shed that housed their steam locomotive 'Number 9'. The other line led to the old loading bank which was used as a platform. Most summer Sundays, the locomotive was fired up and ran up and down this short stretch of track for the benefit of the enthusiasts and the many photographers and public spectators who came to watch. But this all came to an end when Lochty Private Railway closed in 1992. For some photos of locomotives on the Lochty line see [1] |
