Description
English: Oudenaarde (East Flanders, Belgium) also has a beguinage. Most of the small dwellings were rebuilt in the 19th and 20th centuries; only a few date from the 17th century. The small gardens look beautiful thanks to a rich variety of plants and flowers and stand out colorfully against the white facades. The entrance to the beguinage has a baroque gate with the image of Saint Roch, a plague saint. The last beguine died in 1960.
Nederlands: Ook Oudenaarde (Oost-Vlaanderen, België) heeft een begijnhof. De meeste kleine woningen werden heropgebouwd in de 19e en 20e eeuw; slechts enkele dateren uit de 17e eeuw. De kleine tuintjes ogen mooi dank zij een rijke variatie aan planten en steken kleurig af tegen de witte gevels. De ingang van het begijnhof valt op door het barokpoortje met de beeltenis van de heilige Rochus, een pestheilige. Het laatste begijntje stierf in 1960.
