You rub your eyes.Your eyes are all right. Its only a blood-red blotch of swamp sumac, there, frostedand painted in the sun. And then the red light comes aslant thewoods on the level; and the tang of nightfrost is in the air. Down in the valleys,you see the warm kitchen lights springingto life—beacon lights for the home-comersthrough the dusk. What does he say tohimself, the man down there, unhitchinghis plow team on this eve of the yearsharvest home? While the earth remain-eth, seedtime and harvest . . . sum-mer and winter . . . day and nightshall not cease. Not so far different, the Old Gospel fromthe New—is it; only one is Science, andthe other is Scripture—both revelations ofthe God behind the Scheme of Things.
