Title |
Painting of a genie. Costume design for Netherne pantomime. |
||
Description |
Painting of a pirate. Design of costume for Netherne pantomime. Painted by Edward Adamson (1911-1996), pioneer of Art Therapy in Britain. Christmas pantomimes in British asylums have a rich history and Netherne was no exception. Unfortunately we don't know whether the costumes designed and painted by Adamson have ever been used in a performance. Netherne Hospital was formerly The Surrey County Asylum at Netherne or Netherne Asylum, a psychiatric hospital in Surrey. PP/ADA/E/2. Archives & Manuscripts |
