Summary[edit]

Description
English: Pass of Glen Coe - vital progress or man made destruction? This photograph was taken to show the A82 as it passes through the eastern end of the Pass of Glen Coe. The A82 can be seen running through the middle of the photograph from left to right. The Old Glen Coe road can be seen above it to the left of the photo. This photo shows how much destruction was done to the Glen in order to build the current A82. You can see how much rock was removed to make space for the road. This is evident by the sheer rock faces immediately adjacent to the road. If you look closely you can see that the road completely cuts through the rock in the distance. A line of frost can be seen starting at the middle left of the photo. This marks the bottom of hundreds of tons of rock that was deposited into the glen in order to build a flat surface for the road. Below this line can be seen the natural landscape. There was much protest at the time of building because of the vast amount of destruction to the natural landscape in Glen Coe. Balanced against this one must remember the A82 is one of the main arterial routes into Lochaber from the South. Would communities to the north have survived never mind flourished without it being built?
