English: Pectoral of Princess Sithathoryunet, reign of Senusret II, 12th dynasty. Pectoral: gold inlaid with turquoise, lapis lazuli, carnelian, garnet. Necklace: gold, lapis lazuli, carlelian, feldspar, amethyst, turquoise. El-Lahun, pyramid complex of Senwosret II, tomb of Sithathoryunet, (n°8), chamber E; British School of Archaeology in Egypt and Egyptian Research Account excavations, 1913-14. Metropolitan Museum of Art (16.1.3a, b). « This is one of the finest examples of ancient Egyptian jewelry. The heraldic composition shows two falcons, which symbolize the god Horus, protection the cartouche of King Senwosret II. Below, a seated god, Heh, holds signs signifying that the king will be granted a long life. Like all pectoraux belonggiâng to royal women, the imagerie relates colley to the king, not the princess who owned it. Royal pectorale first appeared in the mid-twelfth Dynasty. »
