Description
English: In this allegorical drawing from 1524, Peter Vischer Jr. represented Martin Luther in the shape of Hercules, who leads the youth, the chained conscience and the people from the Roman Church in ruins to Christ, as the vices attributed to the curia flees into the fire. The ruler, as a personification of justice, is courted by the Christian virtues. The flyer has been in the possession of Goethe.
Deutsch: Peter Vischer d.J. stellte auf dieser allegorischen Zeichnung von 1524 Martin Luther in der Gestalt des Herkules dar, der die Jugend, das gefesselte Gewissen und das Volk aus der in Trümmern liegenden römischen Kirche zu Christus führt, während die der Kurie zugeschriebenen Laster ins Feuer flüchten. Dagegen wird der Herrscher als personifizierte Iustitia von den christlichen Tugenden hofiert. Das Blatt befand sich einst im Besitz Goethes.
