English: The Plains Cupid, also known as the Cycad Blue, is a species of Lycaenid butterfly found in India, Ceylon, Burma, Indochina, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Java, Sumatra and the Philippines. They are among the few butterflies that breed on plants of the cycad family.
മലയാളം: നീലിശലഭങ്ങളുടെ കുടുംബത്തില്‍ പെട്ട ഒരു പൂമ്പാറ്റയാണ് നാട്ടുമാരന്‍ അഥവാ മാരന്‍ശലഭം. മഴക്കാടുകളും സമതലങ്ങളും വെളിപ്രദേശങ്ങളുമാണ് ഈ ശലഭങ്ങളുടെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ആവാസ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങള്‍. ആണ്‍ശലഭത്തിന്റെ ചിറകുപുറത്തിന് തിളങ്ങുന്ന നീലനിറമാണ്. പെണ്‍ശലഭത്തിന് തവിട്ടുനിറവും. ചിറകിന്റെ കീഴ് ഭാഗത്ത് നേര്‍ത്ത നീല നിറം കാണാം. ചിറകിന്റെ അടിവശത്ത് വെളുത്ത വലയത്തില്‍ കറുത്ത പുള്ളികളുടെ ഒരു നിരയുണ്ട്. കൂടാതെ ചിറകിന്റെ പിന്നറ്റത്തായി ഓറഞ്ച് വലയത്തിനുള്ളില്‍ മൂന്ന് കറുത്ത പുള്ളികള്‍ കൂടിയുണ്ട്. ചിറകോരത്ത് ചന്ദ്രക്കലയുടെ ആകൃതിയില്‍ മങ്ങി വെളുത്ത അടയാളങ്ങളും ഈ ശലഭത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്. ഈന്തിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തില്‍പ്പെട്ട സസ്യങ്ങളില്‍ ജീവിതചക്രം പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കുന്ന അപൂര്‍വ്വം പൂമ്പാറ്റകളിലൊന്നാണിത്. തോട്ടഈന്ത് എന്ന സസ്യത്തിന്റെ ഇലകളാണ് മാരന്‍ശലഭത്തിന്റെ ലാര്‍വ്വയുടെ പ്രധാന ആഹാരം. ഇതിനെ കൂടാതെ പയര്‍വര്‍ഗ്ഗ സസ്യങ്ങള്‍ ഇരുപൂള്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ സസ്യങ്ങളിലും മാരന്‍ശലഭം മുട്ടയിടാറുണ്ട്. ലാര്‍വ്വകള്‍ കൂട്ടമായാണ് കാണപ്പെടുന്നത്. ചോണനുറുമ്പുകള്‍ ലാര്‍വ്വകള്‍ക്ക് കാവല്‍ നില്‍ക്കുന്നതായി കാണാം. ഈന്തിന്റെ തളിരോലകള്‍ ലാര്‍വ്വകള്‍ പൂര്‍ണ്ണമായും തിന്നു തീര്‍ക്കുന്നു. ഈന്തിന്റെ അടിവശത്തും ഉണങ്ങിയ ഓലകളുടെ മറവിലുമാണ് ഇവ പ്യൂപ്പയാകുന്നതിനായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്നത്. |
