Associated Object:

A complete copper-alloy and silver/tinned strap fitting of Post-Medieval date, c.AD 1500 - 1700. The fitting is lozenge in plan with a sheet of silver or tin adhered to the upper surface. Two integral rectangular sectioned spikes, now distorted, project from the reverse of the fitting. Iron corrosion covers much of the reverse with some leaching over to the front of the fitting.

Length: 40.8mm; Width: 32.7mm; Thickness: 3.7mm; Weight: 11.5g.

Discussion:

All the coins are official English issues of Philip and Mary I, and Elizabeth I which were likely to have been in circulation together in the 16th century. The strap fitting appears to be of a contemporary date to the hoard though its association cannot be secured.

Conclusion:

In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
