Description
Deutsch: Der Botokude-Indianer Joachim Quäck (Quäck = portugiesisch: Kuêk, ursprünglich: Nuguäck) (* vermutlich um 1800 im brasilianischen Bundesstaat Minas Gerais in Brasilien; † 1. Juni 1834 in Neuwied) traf 1817 als Minderjähriger den deutschen Entdecker, Ethnologen, Zoologen und Naturforscher Prinz Maximilian zu Wied-Neuwied in Brasilien. Quäck wurde für Maximilian zum einheimischen Reisebegleiter, der ihm das für seine Forschungen notwendige Hintergrundwissen vermittelte. Maximilian ließ ihn nach Europa nachkommen. Am 12. Februar 1818 kam Quäck in Neuwied an. Dort arbeitete er für Maximilian als dessen persönlicher Kammerdiener. Quäck verstarb im Alter von 34 Jahren am 1. Juni 1834 um 9 Uhr morgens an einer Leberentzündung und wurde am 3. Juni 1834 (vermutlich auf dem Alten Friedhof von Neuwied) katholisch beerdigt.
