Description
Deutsch: Kurtheater in Reichenau an der Rax (Niederösterreich), Hauptstraße. Eine Tafel am Kurtheater trägt folgende Aufschrift: „Theater Reichenau An der Stelle des heutigen Theatergebäudes befand sich ein 1876/77 erbautes Holzschleifwerk, welches zu der schon im 17. Jahrhundert betriebenen Waißnix-Mühle gehörte. Diesen 1884 stillgelegten Betrieb erwarb 1922 die Gemeinde Reichenau und ließ das Gebäude nach Plänen des Reichenauer Baumeisters Alexander Seebacher zu einem Theater- und Konzerthaus umbauen, wobei den Innenraum der Wiener Architekt Heinrich Schopper gestaltete. Am 1. 8. 1926 erfolgte die Eröffnung des Theaters, welches dann mit wechselndem Erfolg, auch als Tonkino betrieben wurde. Heute ist das Theatergebäude Spielstätte der überaus erfolgreichen sommerlichen Festspiele 'Kunst & Künstler in Reichenau'.“
