Revzen-i menkuş, meaning “fresco window,” is a specific form of Ottoman stained-glass application frequently seen in mosques, palaces and houses. Revzens are designed to host elaborate patterns of colored glass and the compositions are held in place by plaster frames made of pouf clay. The more complex designs are installed within the interiors of buildings, because of the need to preserve their fine plaster frames. The works that can be seen from the outside named “exteriors,” are produced with stronger frames and less intricate patterns. In Ottoman Religious architecture, “exteriors” are usually designed with circular or elliptical frames, while “interiors” comprise different colors and patterns.
