| Description |
Deutsch: "Die Brücke am Kwai" ist ein berühmter Spielfilm aus dem Jahr 1957 (der allerdings in Ceylon gedreht wurde). Die echte Holzbrücke über den Kwai wurde 1943 erbaut, von ihr sind nur noch bei Niedrigwasser einige Stümpfe von Brückenpfeilern zu sehen. Flussaufwärts von der Holzbrücke wurde wenig später diese Brücke aus Stahl und Beton gebaut. Beide Brücken wurden durch alliierte Luftangriffe mehrfach beschädigt. Die runden Brückenbögen sind noch die ursprünglichen, die eckigen sind nach dem Krieg als Ersatz für zerstörte eingefügt worden.
English: "The Bridge on the River Kwai" was a novel by Pierre Boulle (1952) and a famous war film (1957) starring Alec Guinness and William Holden — in reality there were two bridges built 1942 -1945 for the Thai-Burma-Railway: One bridge was wooden, there are only small stumps to be seen at low tide; the second, made of steel and concrete is still existing. The round truss spans are the originals, the angular parts are post-war replacements. |
