Sønn av eidsvollsmannen Christian Hersleb Horneman (1781–1860) og ektefellen Fredrikke Horneman (1787–1852). Far til maleren Sara Rein Hornemann (1863–1960). Utstillingstekst i Trondhjems 900 Aars Jubilæum: Katalog for Den Historiske Udstilling i Trondhjem 1897: 505. Horneman, Robert Nicolai, f. 1815, d. 1889; Søn af No. 502 og 503. 1861 Assessor og 1869 Justitiarius i Trondhjems Stiftsoverret. Kjøpte Reinskloster af sin Fader og boede der, indtil han flyttede til Trondhjem som Assessor, da han solgte den til sin Fætter Thomas Horneman, f. 1819, S. af No. 506.
