I am on a rescue mission. I see a World where persons living with Down syndrome can have a normal life - WORLD PULSE AMBASSADOR

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Adetola Makinde is a Nigerian Ambassador for Save Down syndrome inc., to the United States, multiple award winner, humanitarian, educator and Early interventionist who has led Moyinoluwa Rainbow Down syndrome Foundation in fulfilling its mission of making each day better than the last for families and children living with Down syndrome since 2014, in Nigeria.

Her daughter's birth with Down syndrome changed the life of the family and deeply concerned about her development, she gave up her 11 years career as a seasoned banker and went fully into small scale self-employment and children entertainment before making a lifelong decision of devoting her time to ensuring that special needs children living with Down Syndrome and their families are encouraged so that they never feel alone on the journey. Adetola, a World Pulse digital Ambassador, shares her story of finding purpose from pain to the public and mentors women in various communities, states and countries. Although the lonely walk has been a very challenging experience that her family faced with her own daughter’s diagnosis in April 2011, she since rediscovered herself and found her purpose by answering God’s call to add value to the lives of children born this way through her foundation. Determined to bring the best out of the uncertainty, she turned her pain into passion as she dreamed of a unique and revolutionary environment for children with Down syndrome who society often gives up on. Passionate about helping and supporting them from birth based on her knowledge of early intervention from hands-on training by experts in the United states, she began a weekly home visitation to few families in her community in 2014 with the support of her husband. She serves as a children's teacher in her local church and has attended various capacity building trainings /workshops in the United Kingdom and United states of America that develops her competencies of reaching out to children born with Down syndrome. Tola has anchored national and international formal and non-formal talks on Down syndrome to different audiences. She works closely with the Save Down syndrome inc. in the United states in developing educational materials, ending the genocide, mistreatment and abuse of persons with Down syndrome and also with a few other Associations. Her organisation is a member of Down syndrome International, UK. Tola is involved with Grassroot awareness, adoption of children from indigent homes, taking them off the streets to attend school, raising funds to foot heart surgery bills, amongst other surgeries, providing means to transport them to school, connecting with mothers in Nigeria and globally, giving free consultation, training and empowerment for struggling mothers through her foundation and support from partners. On a rescue mission, and being a community leader in her field, she still engages in home visitation, leads a team that is passionate about providing support and care for affected persons and is a strong advocate of early intervention who has greatly impacted the lives of persons with Down syndrome, especially newly diagnosed babies through various programs and services her foundation provides.

Tola is a member of the Global Down syndrome Foundation and has received various prestigious National, International Awards and certificates of Achievement since 2015. She affirms that to continue to save and support persons with Down syndrome, she needs to continually learn, sacrifice and be ready to adapt to new situations and conditions. This gives her joy even though the journey is an emotional roller coaster ride as she raises her other children, those she cares for and her 9 year old ambitious and unstoppable Ballerina and heart warrior, Mo Bernice Makinde.
