English: Salvage workers from the Women's Voluntary Sservice (WVS) in East Barnet, Hertfordshire, during 1943, carrying bins containing kitchen scraps that will be distributed to local farmers as food for pigs WVS salvage workers Mrs Gerald De Rivaz, Kathleen Kent and Winifred Jordan carry large pig bins on their shoulders from their positions on the sunny streets of East Barnet to the WVS trailer. The salvage kitchen scraps in the bins will be emptied into the trailer, and the contents transported and distributed to the local pig farmer. The bins will be returned to their place on the street, ready to be refilled. |
