Summary[edit]

Description
English: Sand knoll between Bisterne Common and Dur Hill Inclosure, New Forest The sandy knoll is a prominent landscape feature on the eastern edge of Bisterne Common. The gate on the left leads through to a footpath across Bisterne Common. The trees on the hill, to the right, and the tree on the left alongside the gate are all Scots pine. The specimen on the left is spreading as it has grown in isolation. Those on the hill grew up on the edge of the Dur Hill Inclosure, competing for light with their close neighbours, and have grown straight and tall, and have lost their lower branches.
