The regions in the figure correspond to:

  • light blue zones are aquifers,
  • darker blue hatched zone is an aquitard,
  • light brown (tan) section is the vadose zone (unsaturated zone), and
  • dark brown area is "impermeable" bedrock (an aquiclude).
