Summary[edit]

Description
English: Picture of Saint Bavo statue from top of Saint Bavo Church in Haarlem, the Netherlands. This statue weathered the "Haarlemse Noon", the Haarlem version of the iconoclasm in 1578, but acid rain caused it to be taken down in 1982. Saint Bavo now has a place within the church. He carried a sword in his right hand that is no longer visible, and on his left, a falcon is perched on his wrist. Saint Bavo was a knight who entered a monastery when his wife died and he converted to Christianity. He is often depicted in his worldly garb of Knight at the moment of his conversion. He died in 652 and became a saint after a monk by the name of Alcuin wrote about him. He became a saint in the 9th century.
