Description
English: Ainsdale: built in Londonderry in 1890 as a three-masted barque, damaged by a U-boat and abandoned in the First World War, salvaged in February 1917, taken to port under tow and converted to a steamship. Owned by P. Iredale & Porter (1893–1917) and Alby United Carbide Factories Ltd (1917–22). Sold in 1922 to Aug. Bolten Wm. Miller's Nachfolger, who renamed her Bollan. Sold in 1925 to MA Heekt & HT Lussendorp & renamed Arktis. Sold in 1928 to Schröder, Holken & Fischer, who quickly re-sold her to Kalkavan Zade Steamship Co who renamed her Kalkavan Zade. In 1936 her name was shortened to Kalkavan. In December 1943 she was sunk in the Black Sea by either a Soviet mine or a Soviet submarine. http://www.iredale.de/maritime/ainsdale.htm
