Summary[edit]

Description
English: Yolngu tribe (north-east Arnhem Land, Australia) women's string-figure depicting 'menstrual blood of three women'. An associated myth states that string-figures were invented by Two Sisters who in a ritual act 'sat down, looking at each other, with their feet out and legs apart, and both menstruated'. They then put string loops made of one another's menstrual blood around their necks. C. Knight 1995. Blood Relations: Menstruation and the Origins of Culture.
