Description
English: Surgeon's memorial A marble tablet in St Mary's church commemorates a local here, Thomas Roblyn (1780-1855), who was born in Fishguard and became a naval surgeon on HMS Bulldog during the Napoleonic wars, seeing action in Malta and Egypt, and serving under Lord Nelson and other celebrated naval commanders. He was awarded the gold Order of the Crescent and the Silver Sphynx by the Turkish government, as well as the Queen's Medal in 1850. After his service at sea he practised as physician in Bristol and is buried with his wife in Bicester, Oxfordshire,
