This wasthe bloodiest of the disastrous contests (Grandson, Morat, and Nancy) inwhich Charles the Bold, the puissant Duke of Burgundy, lost his treasure,his courage, and his life (Gut, Mut, und Blut). The Burgundians lost15,000 men and all their baggage. The Mont Vuilly (2155) may be ascended from Motier, on the W.bank (steamer in 1/4 hr.), in 3/4 hr. via Lugnorre. Splendid view of thelakes of Neuchatel, Morat, and Bienne, and of the Jura and the Bernese Alps. The Steamboat from Morat to Neuchatel (4 times daily in 2-2i/2 hrs.)crosses the lake to Motier and Praz, on the W. bank; at Sugiez it passesunder an iron bridge and enters the Broye. Near La Sauge we enter theLake of Neuchatel (p. 255), steering first S.W. to Cudrefln, and afterwardsN.W. to St. Blaise and Neuchatel (p. 255). Mo lithe
