THE CROWN PRINCE OF DENMARK 302 T. DE WITT TALLAGE—HIS LIFE AND WORK with royalties, he was less pretentious than any of the officers in the anteroomof the palace. He freely and familiarly conversed of the great internationalquestions which are now disturbing Europe and Asia. He will soon take thegovernment, for his father is eighty-four years of age and must soon by naturallaw put down the sceptre. The Queen, though heir to uncounted millions, hasnot been made worldly, but is chiefly interested in religious work in all partsof the world. The home-life of this family is an illustrious example to all thedomestic life of Denmark, as the home-life of his sister on the throne of Russiawas an inspiring example to all the homesteads of Russia. The oldest daughter of this princely household is a marvel of beauty andgood sense, speaking English almost as well as Danish. The younger daughterexcused herself for an afternoon horseback ride, and on our way out throughthe palace park we saw her
