English: Design of seated Louis XVI with a lion at his side, welcoming Liberty accompanied by Mars and Minerva; next to him a standing female figure holds a cap of liberty on a pike; to the right are a citizen and Mercury. Above a cartouche contains a scene of two peasants driving a plow pulled by two horses. There is a small circular medallion with a view of the Bastille being demolished and a banner bearing the inscription "Louis XVI restaurateur de la liberte" (Louis XVI, restorer of liberty). All in red on white ground.

Dimensions A. Warp: 126 cm (49 3/4 in.) Weft: 121 cm (47 1/2 in.). Weft is three pieces sewn together. B. Warp: 84 cm (33 in.). Weft: 98 cm (38 1/2 in.). Both selvedges present. Pattern: height of repeat and printing plate in both A and B: 100 cm (39 1/4 in.). Width of printing plate: 92 cm (336 1/4 in.). There is no repeat across individual widths of fabric but pattern is designed so that separate lengths form a half-drop repeat when sewn together correctly.
