Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Cut near Bray As far as I can see there is no history of this watercourse currently on the internet. It certainly rises to the north-east of Bracknell and then flows west, then north, then north-eastwards towards Bray and the River Thames. However in Bray Wick it suddenly makes a right-angled turn to flow in a straight line eastwards towards the Thames. This image is taken along that reach. I suspect that the watercourse originally flowed straight on in Bray Wick to enter the River Thames upstream of Bray, and it was diverted along this artificial channel to enter the Thames downstream of Bray to provide flood alleviation in Bray village. On the 1881 Edition of the Ordnance Survey 6" to the mile map the channel seen here is shown as The Cut, but there is also cartographic evidence of the route of an abandoned watercourse heading north-eastwards from Bray Wick to join the Thames upstream of Bray.
