Ending the War Work 325 of their boys buried abroad. Knights of Cokimbus secretariesendeavored to procure such memorial in the form of photographsof the graves of the soldiers. Hundreds of these photographswere taken and sent to the United States ; but the work grad-ually developed to such large proportions that the Governmentassumed it. While there were men in hospitals in England the Knights ofColumbus had secretaries to visit them. The British people wereespecially kind to wounded Americans. It is true that there wassome ill-feeling between American and British soldiers in neigh-boring camps throughout the British Isles; but the friends of oursoldiers could not have been more eager than the British civiliansto render them aid when they were wounded. The Knights ofColumbus conducted scores of parties of wounded men to thecountry residences of wealthy English families, where the boyswere made to feel thoroughly at home. In fact, if there wasany such thing as a degree of good fortune
