| Description |
English: The Royal Saloon Trailer No 59 is the most distinguished car on the Manx Electric Railway. It was originally built as a special saloon for the Directors. When King Edward VII was visiting the Isle of Man, the weather deteriorated and his Royal Yacht was unable to put into Douglas to collect him. Instead it put into Ramsey, and the King and his party were conveyed to Ramsey using No 59. It remains the only Manx-based railway vehicle ever used by a reigning King, although Queen Elizabeth II has travelled in a horse tram. I hope the King enjoyed the wonderful scenery, although in bad weather it does not look its best. |
