Summary[edit]
Author |
Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton |
Description |
English: The balloon being filled on the ice. A view of the cow-gut balloon being inflated with hydrogen on the ice. Ann Savours records that the balloon had been christened 'Eva'. Four men are below the partially lifted and inflated balloon, while the other six are watching. Scott was the first to make an ascent in a balloon in Antarctica. Shackleton was second, reaching a higher altitude of 750ft (according to the album caption), or 650ft (according to his biographer), and he took his camera - see ALB0346.13 & ALB0346.14. The album caption records that the balloon was subscribed to by the Misses Dawson Lambtons, to whom the album was dedicated. |
