The Repealers next appeared, fol-lowed by The Victims of Society, The TwoFriends, Meredith, and The Governess. Thelast has been pronounced by some critics asamong the best of the authoi-s works. Thencame The Confessions of an Elderly Gentleman,deemed liy The Athenceum the best of LadyBlessingtons fictions, and containing incidentsuflacient for several ordinary three-volumenovels. The elderly gentleman has been inlove six times, and relates his story so franklyand truthfully that the reader experiences agenuine fellow-feeling for the narrator. Coun-try Quarters, Marmadnl:e Herbert, and TheConfessions of an Elderly Lady followed inquick succession. The last was intended af;a companion to Confessions of an ElderlyGentleman, and in 1853 they were issued inone volume as Confessions of an Elderly Ladyand Gentleman.
