768 THE NAVAL HISTORY I propose to place four of my own new 10-inchguns in the casemate ; one at each corner. Theyweigh about 16,000 pounds, and will throw a solidshot, with forty pounds of powder, which haspierced four and a half inches of good iron at twohundred yards. If the two other guns are neededthey may be of 9-inch. Annexed are eighteen sketches illustrating thevarious devices which are referred to in the forego-ing, as well as the defences of the harbor : 1. General plan of the harbor, showing the posi-tions of the batteries, obstructions of booms, ropesand piles, torpedoes, barrel, frame and boiler, siteswhere he the wrecks of the Monitors Weehawken and Patapsco, steamship Housatonic, rebelsteamer Etiwan,etc. This has been prepared with great care by Cap-tain Boutelle, from drawings on the spot, of thebatteries, determination of the locality of the ob-structions, etc., from observations, or from thestatements of those who removed them.
