Summary[edit]

Description

In London there were several protests against Trump's inauguration including one of over one thousand demonstrators outside the US Embassy and another of several hundred at Trafalgar Square and these among a weekend of protests across 20 UK towns and cities with the largest event - The Women's March against Trump and sexism planned for Saturday in central London with over 17,000 signed up on Facebook.

The weekend of protests was also backed by 50 members of Britain's parliament including including Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry and Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott.

Demonstrators gathered outside the US embassy from late afternoon on Friday 20th January including singer and songwriter Lilly Allen. The slogans on the banners and chants included "hey ho, sexist Trump has got to go" and "No fascist USA, No Trump, No KKK".

While the label "fascist" is often used inappropriately there is I think some justification here using it to a leader who tries to promote nationalism and xenophobia while expanding America's already vast military along with a pledge to restore torture and threats of unilateral military action against "unfriendly" countries.
