Summary[edit]

Katsushika Hokusai: The Great Wave off Kanagawa  wikidata:Q28912605

Katsushika Hokusai: The Great Wave off Kanagawa
Title
Japanese: 『神奈川沖浪裏』 - Kanagawa oki nami ura; The Great Wave off Kanagawa
Object type single execution of an artwork / woodblock print
Description
English: Although it is often used in tsunami literature, there is no reason to suspect that Hokusai intended it to be interpreted in that way. The waves in this work are sometimes mistakenly referred to as tsunami (津波), but they are more accurately called okinami (沖波), great off-shore waves.
Français : Bien que cette image soit souvent utilisée pour représenter un Tsunami, l'artiste cherchait probablement à représenter une vague scélérate.
Deutsch: Obwohl es häufig in der Literatur mit Bezug auf Tsunamis (
津波
) verwendet wird, war dies nicht zwangsläufig der Grundgedanke von
Hokusai
. In Wirklichkeit werden die Wellen als
Okinami
(
沖波
), brandende Wellen auf offenem Meer, bezeichnet.
