Local mythology has it that a tycoon gunmaker's car broke down in 1891 at this spot. As his wife sat on the hillside she remarked how much she loved the view. The tycoon built the house as her holiday villa and he referred to it as his castle. The hotel, built in 1892, indeed has a spectacular view of Cardigan Bay.
