Summary[edit]

Description An overhead view of U.S. Navy aircraft and crewmen on the forward flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS America (CV-66) as the ship heads south through the Suez Canal, in 1981. The America was the first U.S. Navy carrier since 1967 and the largest ever to travel this route up to that date. The carrier, with assigned Carrier Air Wing 11 (CVW-11), was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean from 14 April to 12 November 1981.
